Author: Alaylith
Rating: G
Characters: Holmes
Summary: Holmes wanders through London's streets at night. (July Prompt 21)
WordCount: 330
Prompt: July 21 ~~~ Poem
Acquainted with the Night, by Robert Frost
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
A luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
Author's Note: A very beautiful poem; only problem - I could not completely understand it! ;( I had for example really no idea what "luminary clock" meant until I read a summary/analysis of the poem I found with google. <_<
Quite happy about the analysis I found, too, because this part about the luminary clock gave me the idea for today's story. :)
Thus this story takes place after Only Way to Destroy Me. And I am really curious about tomorrow's prompt, as it should be the first one to be more difficult. As if I needed more difficulties... ^^"
