Title: Leaving the stable
Theme: July Writing Prompt 2014 #10 - July 10
Prompt: A Sporting Chance. Include one or more bits of sporting gear in your entry. What the gear is (bathing costume? Roller skates? Tennis racquet?) is entirely up to you.
Author: Alaylith
Rating: PG
Universe: BBC (S1); based on ACD "Silver Blaze"
Characters: Sherlock, John
Word Count: 350
Summary: Sherlock and John examine the stable of Silver Blaze.
A/N: Simple prompt, as I have a case about a missing horse and so could use anything related to riding - at least I consider riding gear as sporting gear. :b
Overall a boring drabble - can't write investigation things or case-stuff, but as I am writing a case fic I have to include at least a bit of those things... Meh... ._.

Sherlock immediatly starts to browse through the stable, checking Silver Blaze's empty box and the riding gear lying or hanging around.
"Is this Silver Blaze's saddle?" Sherlock asks the stable boy, pointing to one of the saddles and the boy nods. "Yessir."
"But the reins are missing?" Sherlock continues, while looking around and the boy takes a look as well. "Yessir, just as well as his headstaff, noseband and other things."
Sherlock takes a few more minutes, then looks to the open barn door, seeing John standing there and looking around - checking the perimeter, Sherlock observes.
As Sherlock walks up to him John turns around to look at him.
"Only exit, Sherlock," John says and nods to the door leading to the small adjourning house they came through. "Besides the door, but you can not lead a horse through there obviously. Otherwise there are several windows someone could enter through. But to lead a horse out of here you have to use the barn door. The hinges are oiled and almost silent, but there is one other thing..."
Sherlock cocks his head curiously and follows John a few steps towards the barn door, when suddenly a dog leaps forward, barking loudly. It's leash is connected to the wall outside and the dog stops shortly before their feet, still barking loudly.
"Quiet, Lucky!" the stable boy calls and steps up to the dog, which immediatly falls silent, but still eyes the two foreign men warily.
Sherlock's eyebrows rose the moment the dog appeared and he can see a small smirk on John's lips. "Lucky got his doghouse right beside the stable and stays outside every night. Only a few trusted people can walk by without him barking - other people, even aquaintances, can not pass silently."
Sherlock can feel his own lips forming a smirk, but suppresses it and nods shortly, showing John that he understood. John dips his head acceptingly and both step forward at the same time, leaving the stable side by side.
"The game is on," Sherlock murmurs for John's ears only and receives an amused snort as answer.
