~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sherlock sighs as he carries the tablet with soup and tea and climbs the stairs to the second bedroom.
After John has been foolish enough to stay outside while a storm was raging on, John had of course fallen ill.
That’s not unusual and it is not the reason why Sherlock is worried.
John is silent, way too silent. Normally he would be cranky and bitch around – doctors make the worst possible patients after all. A sick John is even more irritating than Sherlock in one of his blackest moods.
But since Mycroft brought John home, John had only been in bed, taking his medicine, sleeping most of the day and trying to eat everything Mrs. Hudson was kind enough to make for him.
Something is wrong and Sherlock just can’t deduce what it is.
And that worries him immensely.
The door to John’s bedroom is open and Sherlock steps trough, but then stops.
John is partially sitting up, his back against several pillows and his head is turned towards the window. His skin is pale and sweat shines on his forehead.
But it is the forlorn and lost expression in his eyes which draw Sherlock’s attention.
Furthermore the immense pain he can see on John’s face.
Sherlock finally has to accept that there is something definitely wrong with his blogger.
And he has not the slightest idea what it is.
With sad clarity he also knows that the only reason why he noticed anything at all now is that John due to his illness just does not have any strength left to hide his pain.
Standing in the door and watching John’s pain without knowing what is causing it or what he can do to help - Sherlock feels sick himself.
Lovely ficlet, but, like Sherlock, I want to know *what* is causing John so much pain (though I have a few ideas).
Essentially everything boils down to literally physical... and not-literally-physical, with various permutations thereof. Not saying any more than that as I'd probably be wrong!
