Title: Absolutely right
Theme: July Writing Prompt 2014 #06 - July 06
Prompt: For me?: A botanical gift (from someone known or unknown).
Author: Alaylith
Rating: PG
Universe: BBC (S1); based on ACD "Silver Blaze"
Characters: John, Sherlock
Word Count: 450
Summary: Sherlock brings a gift to the hospital, but it is not the monstrous plant in his hands.
A/N: Tiiiiired, we were on a big jumble sale and also on a little carinval and it was sooooooo hot. We were walking around for hours in the heat and now I am totally spent.
Nevertheless did I manage the longest drabble of all this month and I am quite happy with it.
If there is no other prompt for it I do believe that this drabble will be the end of my JWP story - we will have to wait and see. :)
Hope ya like!

John pokes suspiciously the jello the nurse brought him a few minutes ago, not really having an appetite.
He sighs and puts the woobly substance on the table, when the door opens and he looks up.
The legs and coat are easily recognized, but the green-grey monstrosity held between hands hides everything else and it looks like a giant Hulk of a Venus flytrap ate a human.
"Sherlock?" John asks uncertaintly and the thing - John can not even call it a plant - shifst to the side and his flatmates shoots him a grin.
"You are awake," Sherlock states and enters the room fully, the green whatever still held in his hands. He walks to the table at John's bedside and pulls a grimace seeing the jello sitting there.
He puts the pot on the table, pushing until the jello falls down into the wastebin and then draws a wrapped burrito from John's favourite restaurant out of his pocket.
"Sherlock, you shouldn't smuggle food into the hospital," John says while his mouth waters just smelling the thing and Sherlock rolls his eyes, before throwing the burrito on his blanket.
"Than it should not be so easy. Really, John, the nurses are just as blind as anyone else. No one ever sees anything!"
John just humms a response, happily taking huge bites from his burrito. But his eyes are always drawn to the thing sitting on his bedside table.
"Sherlock? What is that?" he finally asks between bites and Sherlock looks from him to the plant, his eyebrows drawn together. "A plant. Is it not a custom gesture to get someone a botanical gift if they are in the hospital? Google says so at least."
John dips his head thougtfully, chewing slowly and Sherlock shrugs lightly, looking for all the world as if he is uninterested. "Did I do it wrong?"
But John can see the uncertainty in his eyes and the tension in his shoulders.
John remembers how Sherlock slowly adjusted to their shared lifes, how Sherlock started to consider his participation in cases.
And all the other little things Sherlock does and says daily, which for normal people may be insivible, but started to become the most important signs for John to look for.
Most clearly John remembers the sheer panic Sherlock demonstrated when Brown knocked him down or how Sherlock stayed near and always made his presence known on the way to the hospital.
John also remembers the look on Sherlock's face when he finally awoke.
"No, Sherlock," John finally says with a gentle smile on his lips and Sherlock quirks an interested eyebrow, hearing an undertone in his voice John rarely displays.
"You did absolutely right."
