~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fitzroy Simpson led them directly to the bushes where he said he had stayed after having fled from King's Pyland and while Sherlock and Gregory look through them, John stayed up with the two officers and the American.
"Yo, mate," Simpson finally says and John turns to look at him. John was aware that since this morning, after Sherlock got him, the American has been looking at him with a bemused expression in his eyes, but John has no idea what the reason might be.
"Yes, Mr. Simpson?"
"You and that sleuth," he says and points with his chin at Sherlock. "You together?"
"I am with him, yes," John answers carefully, but Simpson shakes his head. "No, I mean - you both, together. You know - getting laid."
John's eyebrows wander up his forehead and he can see how the two officers are exchanging incredulous looks. "Why do you ask that?"
Simpson squirms slightly, not looking at John anymore. "That detective said this morning something about that..."
John just manages to suppress a groan, Sherlock always manages to do or say things for people to misunderstand.
"What did he say?"
"Said he's gonna knock you up...," Simpson murmurs and John cocks his head lightly. "Well yes, he did actually. Why do you think that means we are together?"
Simpson just stares at him aghast and then his eyes wander over John's body, making him feel umcomfortable. "Didn't take long then, as he was hardly long gone. And you hide it quite well."
"Hide what?" John growls, now getting frustrated and Simpson makes obscure hand motions near his hip. "The ... eh... discomfort and so on."
"Just what are you talking about?" John finally explodes and Simpson raises one eyebrow. "He knocked you up."
Seeing John's blank look, Simpson sighs and prepares himself to spell it out for the doctor.
Really, what does an intelligent man like the sleuth see in him?
Down the hill Sherlock and Gregory are still checking the bushes, when a loud shriek pierces through the air. They both look up to see a mystified American and John with his face hidden in his hands.
"What's wrong with him?" Gregory asks and Sherlock recognizes the signs of John's body language.
Apparently Sherlock crossed John's monthly supply of patience already - and the month has only just begun.
"It's the time of the month for him," Sherlock shrugs and turns back to the work, missing the appalled look of the inspector.
