Characters: Sherlock
WordCount: 221b (yay)
Summary: Sherlock was never one to talk much, but that's what children books were made for.
A/N: Almost forgot this and I have no time today... As I have never read any book of Seuss and only have seen two movies (Grinch & Lorax) I was not really able to include much as I have no time for any research. So I just took something from the prompt itself and mentioned it...

Talk to him, the doctors and nurses said. He might hear you.
Sherlock never was one for talking - John has always been the one for words and for stories.
Nevertheless he does try, but everyhing just feels wrong without any response from John.
There are no laughs, no snorts, no rebukes, no remarks.
And silence has always discouraged Sherlock from talking.
One day a nurse takes pity on him and brings him a book.
Sherlock is sceptical that a book about a cat with a hat might be the right thing, but as it is for John he is willing to try.
So he starts to read out loud and for whatever reason he is unable to stop and finishes the first book.
When the nurse returns he asks for more of the books.
Sherlock does not remember the words or the pictures, he is not even aware of how rough and horse is voice grows over time.
But he keeps on reading, filling the air with words and stories, knowing that John would never enjoy the silence.
Silence just gives you too much room to think and to remember.
The hours pass and late in the night Sherlock falls asleep with a book in his lap.
And so he misses the moment he has been waiting for - John blinks.
