Sherlock does not believe in God or Angels, but now he prays that he has friends in such high places to watch over him.
Or at the very least to watch over John.

The wagon races through the moor towards the stable of the Colonel, as Sherlock does not know who he can trust in Brown's servitude.
Especially not if it concerns something this important as John's safety.

John has been silent, he did not even moan when Sherlock carried him to the wagon.
The stallion followed loyally and allowed Sherlock to easily harness him.

Now that stallion uses all his strength and speed to transport them as fast as possible.

Sherlock risks a look over his shoulder, tightly gripping the reigns in his hands and leaving imprints in his skin.
John lies unmoving and the blood on his clothes and skin is the only colour in the dark night.

Sherlock remembers how Brown whipped him, he also remembers how John pushed him out of harm's way.

Those memories will haunt his nightmares for the rest of his life.
And even more so the utter fear and anguish he felt at those moments.

Sherlock rarely feels emotions and the only other person who has ever been able to awake such strong emotions in him so far was his brother.
But John is so much more, something so very different from anything Sherlock has ever known.

Looking forward, Sherlock hopes that he will not find out what it means to lose something of such paramount importance.
He can not imagine how to live with such pain forever.
